The ultimate pencil skirt (eventually)

This should have been a very simple make, but I rushed the measuring/fitting phase and ended up with a pencil skirt that was too big and too long. My attempts to shorten and take in the skirt ended up in badly fitting wonky mess. Luckily the fabric allowance was very generous and I had enough to have a second go.

Lessons learned

  • Only shorten from the 'lengthen/shorten here' section of the skirt.
  • Measure yourself accurately (I had adapt the pattern to a wider hip than waist measurement).
  • Kick pleats are quite easy and very satisfying to sew :-)

All in all, I am pretty happy with my second incarnation of the ultimate pencil skirt. My tired, unwell brain struggled a bit first time around, but I'm glad I remade it and could easily be persuaded to make another.

I'm taking a break from the Minerva blog for March to finish my shirt making course (more about that soon). I'll be back to it in April with a rather ambitious PVC project, so wish me luck!

Happy sewing,
